The Strauss Dynasty and Habsburg Vienna
David Wyn Jones interviewed Gwenan Edwards

Biographer Professor David Wyn Jones offers new and fascinating insights into both the Strauss family and Viennese musical life.
Wyn Jones says the Strauss family were far from composers of ‘light’ music and deserve to be seen as seriously as the likes of Brahms, Mahler and Bruckner. He places their work in profound cultural, political social changes of 19th-century Habsburg Vienna and throws new light on their lives, loves, work and times.
Wyn Jones is emeritus professor of music at Cardiff University. His previous books include acclaimed biographies of Haydn and Beethoven. Here he talks to journalist and former BBC News presenter, Gwenan Edwards, whose credits include the BBC Proms, BBC World, BBC News Channel and Watchdog on BBC1.
