Historian of Number 10 Downing Street Sir Anthony Seldon explains why the office of UK prime minister has endured longer than any other democratic political office in the world.

Seldon looks at the lives, careers, successes, failures, loves and scandals of our great prime ministers from Robert Walpole and William Pitt the Younger, to Clement Attlee and Margaret Thatcher. He explains who was most successful and why and how the power of the monarchy has decreased as the power of the prime minister has grown.
