Author and film producer Dr Saqib Qureshi looks at the twin perils of Islamic orthodoxy and Islamaphobia and says both misinterpret the faith and its origins.

Qureshi looks at the origins of Islam, the prophet Muhammed and changing sources of Islam through the ages. He says orthodoxy and Islampohobia both ignore the few historical records and misinterpret the faith and its origins. He urges Muslims to adopt ‘theological humility’ and acknowledge the diversity of approaches and principles in Islam. Qureshi rejects the stereotype of Islam as a violent religion and says the West should consider its own appetite for conflict and colonisation.

Qureshi is a fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has produced two films and the 1996 BBC One documentary, Al Dawaah, the first television documentary about the Muslim community in any Western country. His previous books include The Broken Contract and Reconstructing Strategy.
