A DISCERNING DIP INTO THE JOYS OF GIN - MARCH 22 - 9.29am
Exquisitely fun debut for tasty tipple
Politely riotous, elegantly eccentric and perfectly balanced with just a smidgin of revolution, last night’s gin tasting at the Oxford Botanic Garden (OBG) was a blast. And wow, what a setting - like a cross between the jungles of Indiana Jones and the genteel charm of a Sherlock Holmes drawing room.
A perfect platform then for Oxford’s own artisan distillery TOAD to introduce the first ever Oxford University licensed liquor - PHYsics Gin, which specifically uses 25 botanicals from the OBG itself.
Professor Simon Hiscock, director of the Garden, briefly explained the part it played in the creation of the gin, and then left it to TOAD chief Tom Nicolson, a fabulously ‘Wind in The Willows-esque’ type character to properly introduce their unique product.
Generous with the tastings (‘Brownie’ points all round) it was a tour de force performance in just how to engage and energise an audience.
Bravo!
