A WINK TO THE WISE - MAR 31 - 10.19AM
China, Professor Frank Dikotter, Sheldonian Theatre
Now this will be unmissable and undoubtedly prove to be one of this year's festival highlights - 'The Chancellor's Lecture. The People's Trilogy: A History of China.'
Given by today's leading historian on modern China, Professor Frank Dikotter, it will enthral and shock in equal measure for Dikötter has drawn on newly opened party archives, secret police reports, interviews and memoirs to trace the history of modern China from the hoisting of the red flag over Beijing’s Forbidden City by Mao Zedong in 1949, through the great famine that saw 45 million Chinese worked, starved or beaten to death, to the brutal purges of the Cultural Revolution.
This must-see event takes place at 10.00am tomorrow (Saturday, April 1st) in the grandeur of Oxford's Sheldonian Theatre and tickets cost just £12.50.
