NOTHING SAYS ‘LITERARY’ LIKE A GREAT MEAL WITH SELECTED WINES - 10.04AM - MARCH 25 - 2019
Oxford Literary Festival gourmet Dinners 2019
And good morning (and what a beautiful morning too!).
News of record pre-festival sales has doubtless put everyone connected with this year’s event in a terrific mood - and deservedly so; it IS a very cool programme and nothing quite has the buzz of a Sold Out event (assuming of course you have a ticket).
But before taking a closer look at just why this year’s program is proving so especially ‘hot’, here as promised is a round-up of the festival’s other literary dinners (having already focussed on the Pasture to Plate® No Finer Life on Sat. March 30).
On Sunday March 31, there’s the Irish Day Dinner at Worcester College which naturally celebrates Irish cuisine (after all, a bean sprout salad, while lovely, wouldn’t really cut the Colcannon) with many of the speakers on the Irish programme attending.
Looking forward to Friday, April 5, there’s the ‘The Land Where Lemons Grow’ evening; an Italian themed dinner, held at St John’s College in the presence of the Italian Ambassador no less, that aims to take diners on a culinary journey through Italy’s past and present.
And looking even further forward to Saturday, April 6, there’s the (and this is always a Festival favourite) ‘Celebrating the Programme of American Literature and Culture’ dinner which, while a bit of a mouthful as a title, is a true culinary treat, complete with knives, forks and no opportunity whatsoever to ‘go large’.
Incidentally, the dress code for the Irish dinner is informal while the others are jacket and tie. So no worries about having to wear a clip-on dickie bow (and then being found out).
