Young poet Stephanie Sy-Quia talks about her debut collection Amnion – a contemporary lyric epic that journeys from the Philippines to Libya, through France, Spain, and the UK.
he collection of poems questions the roots of migration and what it means to grow up in a family divided by geography, history and language. There are themes of empire, familial discord, personal mythology, class and race.
Sy-Quia was born in California and lives in London. She is a freelance journalist and has written for FT Weekend, the TLS, the Economist, the Spectator and TANK magazine. She has twice been shortlisted for the FT Bodley Head Essay prize. Here she talks to writer and literary critic Sophie Ratcliffe, author of The Lost Properties of Love.
