Living and Loving in the Age of AIDS
Derek Frost Interviewed by Nick Higham
Saturday, 26 March 2022
6:00pm
1 hour
Oxford Martin School: Lecture Theatre
£7 - £12.50
Founder of the Aids Ark charity Derek Frost talks about his life including the challenges of the HIV and AIDS epidemic and how it led him and his partner Jeremy Norman to found the charity.
Frost, an interior designer, and Norman, a successful entrepreneur who started The Embassy Club in London and Heaven, Europe’s largest gay discotheque, were caught up in the early days of the epidemic as many of their friends began to get sick and die. Norman tested positive for HIV at a time when it was considered a death sentence. Frost describes how they battled through and transformed their lives. Out of the transformation came the Aids Ark charity, which was dedicated to supplying life-saving anti-retroviral drugs to people in the developing world. The event includes a short film about Aids Ark.
Here Frost talks to journalist Nick Higham, who was the BBC’s first ever media correspondent and is a former presenter of Meet the Author on the BBC news channel.
This event is part of a series of festival events on pioneers.
