Debut writer Funmi Fetto and established novelist Jendella Benson discuss their work including why Benson admires and is championing Fetto’s writing.
Fetto is style editor at Vogue and beauty and director and columnist at the Observer. She has written a short story collection, Hail Mary, which brings to life the stories of nine Nigerian women navigating race, class and prejudice from Lagos to London. The stories feature women torn between aspiration and social pressure, fear and courage and the expectations of tradition and the desire to stand apart.
Benson is a British-Nigerian novelist and head of editorial at Black Ballad. She is the author of Hope & Glory and All That We’ve Got, a powerful commentary on a city that we don’t always see.
Discussions are chaired by journalist and reviewer for the FT Suzi Feay.
