Josh Cohen

Psychologist and literary theorist Professor Josh Cohen says anger is a primary feeling and offers a new understanding of it so we can all handle the rage within us in an age of divisive social media, stark political differences, road rage and marital spats.

Cohen uses case studies of patients, developments in neuropsychology, literature, psychology and recent political events to identify the different forms of anger. He looks at elemental fury, cynical anger that underpins societal unrest and the questioning anger of political unrest. Cohen says anger maps itself on to every aspect of our intimate lives and shapes the world.

Cohen is a psychoanalyst and professor of modern literary theory at Goldsmiths, University of London. He is also author of Not Working, The Private Life and How to Read Freud.
