Musician, DJ and regenerative farmer Andy Cato, Dragons Den businesswoman and environmental campaigner Deborah Meaden and chief executive of Compassion in World Farming Philip Lymbery discuss why we need more compassionate farming, under the chairmanship of television presenter and farm owner Kate Humble.
Cato is one half of the electronic music band Groove Armada. Farming has been his focus since he read an article more than 20 years ago about the environmental consequences of food production. He sold the rights to his songs to begin farming. He co-founded Wildfarmed, a food and farming business that grows regenerative wheat to make flour. His bread and flour sells in Waitrose and Marks and Spencer.
Meaden is a successful businesswoman, investor and environmental campaigner best known for her role as a TV Dragon on the BBC and for her new environmental podcast The Big Green Money Show. She balances her business work with a passionate interest in a range of environmental causes including as a fellow of WWF, a patron of Tusk Trust and Compassion in World Farming, and an ambassador for the Marine Conservation Society. She is also author of two guides for young people, Why Money Matters and Talks Money.
Lymbery’s latest book is Sixty Harvests Left: How to Reach a Nature-Friendly Future, which takes its title from a United Nations warning that the world’s soils could be gone in a lifetime. Lymbery argues that the food industry is threatening our world. Without soil there will be no food. He challenges us to think about what we buy and eat and its impact on climate change.
Humble is best known for her broadcasting for the BBC on wildlife and science, including on Animal Park, Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Lambing Live. She owns a small farm in Monmouthshire, Humble by Nature, which is farmed for wildlife and livestock.
In association with Compassion in World Farming.
