Award-winning Chinese novelist Xuemo talks about his life and work at this year’s festival China Lecture.

Xuemo hails from Gansu, China, and has written more than 70 books with translations available in more than 20 languages. His novel Into the Desert won the Excellent Translation Award by the China International Communications Group and the Independent Press Award for Literary Fiction. His novel Curses of the Kingdom of Xixia won the NYC Big Book Award for World Literature. The novel Wild Fox Ridge won the International Impact Book Award and the NYC Big Book Award. He topped the International Media Spotlight List at the Frankfurt BookFair in 2022.

Here he talks to Polly Silk, a senior lecturer in publishing at Oxford Brookes University and head of Brookes’ Master’s in Publishing Media. She has more than a decade of experience in international rights and business development, including extensive work in the Chinese market.
