The panel will discuss the art and craft of translation in McEwan’s works and in the works of others. McEwan’s gift includes books in Albanian, Arabic, Basque, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, and Turkish.

McEwan is one of the best-known novelists writing in English today. He won the Booker prize for Amsterdam, and Atonement was turned into an Oscar-winning film. Leeder is a professor of modern German literature at the University of Oxford and an experienced translator of literary works. Laluyaux is head of translation rights at RCW literary agents. They will be introduced by Bodley’s Librarian Richard Ovenden.
