Wolves, witches and pirates. Explore worlds of mystery, magic and fantasy with three best-selling authors in this not-to-be-missed Worlds of Wonder event. Join Alex Bell, Catherine Doyle and Kiran Millwood Hargrave as they discuss their writing, world-building and the inspirations behind their books, old and new.

Bell is the author of books for children and young adults. She will be discussing her work for children, including The Train of Dark Wonders, The Glorious Race of Magical Beasts, and The Polar Bear Explorers’ Club.

Doyle writes for children and young adults, and will be discussing her new novel, Pirates of Darksea. Her other children’s fiction includes the Storm Keeper trilogy, The Miracle on Ebenezer Street, and The Lost Girl King, a magical adventure inspired by Irish mythology.

Millwood Hargrave’s debut The Girl of Ink and Stars, won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2017 and the British Book Awards Children’s Book of the Year. Julia and the Shark, illustrated by Tom de Freston, was Waterstones’ Gift of the Year 2021 and Leila and the Blue Fox won the James Cropper Wainwright Prize 2023. In the Shadow of the Wolf Queen came out in August 2023.

Discussions are chaired by Elizabeth Garner, a teacher of creative writing and author of two novels underpinned by myth and folklore, Nightdancing and The Ingenious Edgar Jones, and a recently-published collection of rewritten folktales Lost & Found.
