Poet, novelist and translator Kevin Crossley-Holland talks about his writing life and a retrospective collection of his best writings.

Crossley-Holland is known as a writer of myths and legends and is associated with the great sagas and Arthurian legends. The collection explores his old English mythmaking, his views on the way folk tales still permeate the narrative of our lives and his work on the power and function of the story.

‘Kevin Crossley-Holland is a master, magician, and commander of the language, the roots of whose work are deeply entwined with ancient patterns of truth and knowledge. I salute and venerate him.’ Philip Pullman

Crossley-Holland is author of the award-winning Arthur trilogy. He has published retellings of traditional tales including The Penguin Book of Norse Myths and Between Worlds: Folktales of Britain and Ireland, and works of poetry. He has translated Beowulf from the Anglo-Saxon, won the Carnegie Medal for Storm and was shortlisted for the same award for Gatty’s Tale. Here he talks to journalist and reviewer for the FT Suzi Feay.
