Blue Peter Book Award winner Onjali Q Raúf talks about The Boy at the Back of the Class and her new books The Star Outside My Window and The Lion Above the Door, and about the experiences that inspired her.
Onjali Q Raúf’s award-winning book The Boy at the Back of the Class portrays the refugee crisis through the eyes of a child. Told with heart, humour and hope, it is a touching story about friendship and children’s power to change the world. Her new books, The Star Outside My Window and The Lion Above the Door, also celebrate the power of hope and resilience, and of finding a place.
Onjali specialised in women’s studies at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and Oxford University respectively before moving on to work in a number of human rights charities. She is the founder of Making Herstory, an organisation mobilising men, women and children from all walks of life to tackle the abuse and trafficking of women and girls in the UK and beyond. In her spare time, she delivers emergency aid convoys for refugee families surviving in Calais and Dunkirk, and supports interfaith projects.
This is an event for schools only and is not open to the public. Tickets £6 per child; one free adult ticket supplied with every ten children’s tickets. Additional adult tickets £7.
Suitable for years 5 and 6. To book or for more information contact andrea@oxfordliteraryfestival.orgchild
