Former director of the Italian Cultural Institute in London Dr Katia Pizzi introduces a new collection of short stories on Venice by Italian authors ranging from Boccaccio to Calvino.
Pizzi is editor of the collection, which brings together stories written between the Middle Ages and today. The stories explore a range of issues affecting Venice, from migration to the environmental cost of cruise ship tourism. Pizzi explains how Venice has always seduced literati, visitors and tourists. While it has inspired writers and artists across the world, few Italian writers have dared to take the city on in their fiction.
Pizzi is senior lecturer in modern Italian studies at the Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies at the School of Advanced Study, University of London. and formerly director of the Italian Cultural Institute in London of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Here she talks to art historian and contemporary art curator Lavinia Filippi, director of the Venice in Peril Fund.
Presented by Venice in Peril Fund.
