Award-winning foreign correspondent John Kampfner takes a wry look at why Germany has become a model for others while Britain continues to languish in wartime nostalgia and fails to tackle contemporary challenges.

Kampfner says no other country has had as turbulent a history as Germany nor has any other country enjoyed as much prosperity in such a short time. He says Germany stands as a bulwark of decency and stability at a time when many other areas of the world are succumbing to authoritarianism and undermining democracy.

Kampfner reported from East Berlin and Moscow during the collapse of communism. He has covered politics for the Financial Times and BBC and is a former editor of the New Statesman. He is author of five previous books including Blair’s Wars. Here he talks to former LBC radio host and BBC presenter Matthew Stadlen.
