Human rights lawyer Susie Alegre examines the most basic right of freedom of thought and explains how the powerful have always sought to get into our heads.

The tech companies that categorise us and shape our everyday thoughts and actions are only the latest to try to control our thoughts, says Alegre. The powerful have always tried to get into our heads to influence how we think and what we buy. And she offers a new framework to understand how we are being undermined and how we can take back our humanity and safeguard our reason.

Alegre is a human rights barrister at the internationally renowned Doughty Street Chambers. She is a pioneer in digital human rights, in particular the impact of artificial intelligence on freedom of thought and opinion.
