Angela Saini

Science journalist and author Angela Saini looks back at how male domination became embedded in society and spread across the globe from prehistory until today.

Saini looked back to the earliest human settlements and used the latest research in science and archaeology to explain what patriarchy really is. She argues that what it is and how far back it goes really depends on where you are. She asks what part we play, both men and women, in keeping patriarchy alive, and why we need to look beyond old narratives to understand why it persists today.

Saini has presented science programmes on BBC radio and television, and her writing has appeared in National Geographic, Wired, the Lancet and Nature. She is author of four books, including Superior: The Return of Race Science and Inferior: How Science Got Women Wrong. The Patriarchs was a finalist for the Orwell Prize.
