Join author and BBC broadcaster Dr Kate Kennedy, cellist Cara Berridge and composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad for Cello: A Journey Through Silence to Sound.
The performance is to celebrate the publication of Kennedy’s new book Cello – A Journey Through Silence to Sound. Directed by Jess Clough-McRae from an idea devised by Tom Morris (War Horse) and performed by Cara Berridge and Kate Kennedy, Bach cello suite no2 and a specially commissioned cello suite by Frances-Hoad will be blended with spoken word and visuals, to tell the stories of four extraordinary cellos and their adventures.
Kennedy is a supernumerary fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford, director of the Oxford Centre for Life-writing, director of the Centre for the Study of Women Composers and director of the Museum of Music History. Her previous books include Dweller in Shadows: A Life of Ivor Gurney and The Silent Morning: Culture and Memory after the Armistice. Berridge is a founder member of Sacconi Quartet, which has played at all the major London venues, and plays in various chamber orchestras. Frances-Hoad has released six CDs of her music, including Magic Lantern Tales, which Opera Today said ‘disorientate and delight in equal measure’.
