Ami Bouhassane, granddaughter of the model, surrealist, fashion photographer, and war correspondent Lee Miller, talks about her grandmother’s less well-known achievements as a gourmet chef.
Miller, Lady Penrose, was an American photographer and photojournalist. She was married to the British surrealist painter and curator Roland Penrose. Their home was visited by the likes of Picasso, Man Ray, Henry Moore and Max Ernst. Bouhassane says cooking was a huge part of Miller’s life and was an extraordinary personal accomplishment. She has brought together photos and recipes from Miller’s personal archives, and explains how cooking became a creative vehicle that she used to build bridges, heal old wounds and empower women.
