The Russia Conundrum

Mikhail Khodorkovsky Interviewed by Martin Sixsmith

Tuesday, 28 March 2023

4:00pm

1 hour

Sheldonian Theatre

£7 - £15

Former Russian billionaire now reform campaigner Mikhail Khordokovsky exposes the damning truths about Putin’s Russia and explains how the West must challenge the Kremlin.

Khodorkovsky was once an oil tycoon and the richest man in Russia. He founded Open Russia in 2001, an organisation that aimed to build and strengthen civil society in the country. After speaking out about corruption, he was stripped of his wealth and jailed for more than 10 years. He now lives in exile in London.

Khodorkovsky has joined forces with former Moscow correspondent of the BBC Martin Sixsmith to write the inside story about his life and Putin’s Russia. He looks at what’s gone wrong with Putin and maps the rise and fall of Russia against his own story of a Soviet youth who became an international oil executive and insider and then a high-profile voice trying to reconcile East and West.
