Blue Moon: Music and Words SOLD OUT

Norma Winstone, John Parricelli, Jeremy Robson and Amy Key

Thursday, 30 March 2023

6:00pm

1 hour 15 minutes

Worcester College: Provost’s Lodgings

£20

Singer Norma Winstone, guitarist John Parricelli, and acclaimed poets Jeremy Robson and Amy Key join forces for a joyous evening of music and words. The event will include songs from Joni Mitchell’s seminal album Blue, sung by Winstone, about whom The Times recently wrote: ‘There is no singer in the country to touch her’. The price includes a glass of wine.

Winstone will be accompanied by jazz guitarist Parricelli, a founding member of the British big band Loose Tubes. Famous for her jazz improvisations and her own compositions, to bridge the readings Norma Winstone will also sing various jazz classics, including numbers sparked off by the witty and moving poems Robson will be reading from his powerful new collection, Chagall’s Moon. Key will read from Arrangements in Blue: Notes on Love and Making a Life, in which she uses Joni Mitchell’s Blue to anchor her thoughts about the realities of a life lived in the absence of romantic love. She will also read a few of her own poems.

Chagall’s Moon is Robson’s fourth collection in nine years. He is a former poetry critic of Tribune, edited several landmark anthologies, and instigated a series of 300 large-scale poetry and jazz concerts where he read alongside many leading poets and musicians.

‘Robson’s vision is both gentle and steely, and on top of his ability to touch one deeply is a marvellous, wry observation of the sweet, sour, and savoury in life’ Maureen Lipman

Key has written two collections of poetry, Luxe and Isn’t Forever.

‘Her new collection, Isn’t Forever, is playful, surreal and enchanting but also rooted in brutal emotional honesty. She is writer of a rare and strange magic.’ Sarah Perry, The Guardian
