Tessa Hadley Interviewed by Suzi Feay

One of the UK’s most celebrated novelists Tessa Hadley talks about her new novel Free Love, a story of a woman’s sexual and intellectual awakening in 1960s London and of living the truest version of our lives.

Phyllis is a dutiful mother living a conventional suburban life in 1967. A stolen kiss in the garden from the 20-something son of an old friend awakens something in her. She makes a decision that defies expectations, and the resulting upheaval mirrors the dramatic transformation of 1960s society.

Hadley is author of seven highly praised novels including Everything Will Be All Right, The Master Bedroom, The London Train, Clever Girl, and Late in the Day. The Past won the Hawthornden Prize. Here she talks to journalist and reviewer for the FT Suzi Feay.
