Jonathan Romain

Writer and broadcaster Rabbi Dr Jonathan Romain talks about some of the controversies and campaigns that have often placed him on a different track to other faith leaders.

Romain explains how he came to be seen as ‘the disobedient rabbi’ as a result of some of his public comments and campaigns. These include opposing faith schools as divisive and harmful to society; welcoming mixed-faith couples as a new social reality; supporting legal assisted dying for the terminally ill; and mixing religion and politics by asking voters at the last election to not vote for Jeremy Corbyn because of anti-semitism within Labour.

Romain is minister of Maidenhead Synagogue and one of Britain’s best-known rabbis. He writes for The Times and Jewish Chronicle and is regularly seen on television. He is author of 20 books including Confessions of a Rabbi.
