Alex Larman Interviewed by Suzi Feay

Critic and royal historian Alexander Larman looks at the dramatic events and internal squabbles that beset the Royal Family during the war years.

Larman uses previously unseen sources to give a definitive account of the period between 1937 and 1947, including the bombing of Buckingham Palace, the Duke of Windsor’s Nazi sympathies and visit to Germany, and the death of the Duke of Kent in a plane crash. Larman says it was a period of turmoil for the monarchy, as an unprepared and terrified George VI took over after the abdication of Edward VII. And he explains how a squabbling and dysfunctional family put their differences aside to unite and help win the conflict.

Larman is author of several books including The Crown In Crisis: Countdown to the Abdication. He is books editor of the Spectator’s world edition and writes regularly on the arts and literature for national newspapers and magazines. here he talks to journalist and reviewer for the FT Suzi Feay.
