Michael Morpurgo

Bestselling and much-loved author of The Butterfly Lion and Running Wild Sir Michael Morpurgo talks about how nature, animals and the landscape inspire his writing and reads his latest books Tales from the Farm, inspired by the farms run by his Farms for City Children charity and the animals that live there.

The natural world is central to so many of Morpurgo’s books and no-one writes better animal stories. He is one of Britain’s best-loved children’s book writers. He has written more than 100 books and has won the Smarties Prize, the Whitbread Award, and most recently the Blue Peter Book Award for Private Peaceful. He is also the author of War Horse, which has been made into an award-winning play and a Golden Globe-nominated film. Morpurgo was Children’s Laureate from 2003-2005, a role that took him across Britain to inspire a love of reading in children. With his wife, Clare, he founded the charity Farms for City Children, which gives children from urban areas an opportunity to spend a week working on a farm in the countryside. He is also a patron of The Story Museum. He will be introduced by chief executive of Compassion in World Farming Philip Lymbery.
