Voices of Europe. Little Bird of Auschwitz: How My Mother Escaped Death and Found our Family
Jacques and Alina Peretti Interviewed by Lucian Hudson
Sunday, 27 March 2022
2:00pm
1 hour
Bodleian: Divinity School
£7 - £12.50
Investigative reporter Jacques Peretti is joined by his mother Alina to tell the story of how Alina survived Auschwitz.
Alina is now 90 and has dementia and the pair have raced against time to tell the story. Alina and her mother and sister were among 13,000 non-Jewish Poles sent to Auschwitz in the final months of World War II. The story reveals not only the brutal reality of Auschwitz but also offers insight into the Russian Revolution, the Polish Resistance, and the deportations to Soviet labour camps.
Peretti’s first book, The Deals That Made the World, told how our world was being changed by people we had never heard of. He also writes for The Guardian, Wired and the Huffington Post. Here they talk to Lucian Hudson, a former chair of Liberal Judaism.
