Authors and teachers of creative writing Professor Jem Poster and Dr Sarah Burton discuss the pleasures and pitfalls of writing and offer some thoughts for aspiring writers of fiction, in this interactive session.
The Book You Need to Read to Write the Book You Want to Write brings together their long experience as both writers and teachers of writing. They offer a wide range of insights and practical strategies and explore some of the issues raised in the book. They’ll also be looking for thoughts and questions from the audience.
Poster is emeritus professor of creative writing, Aberystwyth University. He is the author of a collection of poetry, Brought to Light, and two novels, Courting Shadows and Rifling Paradise. Burton, founder and former director of Cambridge University’s MSt in creative writing, is the author of Impostors and A Double Life: A Biography of Charles and Mary Lamb, as well as a novel, The Strange Adventures of H, shortlisted for the Historical Writers’ Association Debut Fiction Prize. They are the tutors on the festival’s own creative writing workshops.
