Jeremy Hunt in conversation with David Starkey

Former Foreign Secretary Sir Jeremy Hunt talks to historian Dr David Starkey about his new book on whether the UK still has a major role to play in world affairs. The conversation will be filmed for the David Starkey Talks YouTube channel.

Hunt was Foreign Secretary between 2018 and 2019 and is also a former Health Secretary and Chancellor of the Exchequer. In Can We Be Great Again? Why a Dangerous World Needs Britain, he questions whether Britain can still be a major player in the world after being marginalised by Brexit and dwarfed by the rise of new economies. Hunt says the rise of Trump means the question matters more than ever. And he says that now more than ever is the time to defend the progress we have seen in freedom and democracy.

Starkey is a historian, writer and broadcaster. He has presented many documentaries about the Tudors and monarchy. His most recent books include Henry: Virtuous Prince and Magna Carta: The True Story Behind the Charter. He has been a regular on programmes such as BBC Question Time and has often found himself at the centre of controversy for his views on race and British culture.
