Finance professional, mentor and advocate of social mobility Reggie Nelson explains how he was able to change the course of his life and go from an East London council estate to working with a prime minister, working in highly competitive sectors and travelling the world to speak.

Nelson says the power of guidance, visibility and mentoring can give anyone the platform to learn and succeed. He says the moment he knew he had to change followed the death of his father. At the age of 13 his mother had to pick him up from a cell where he was being held for troublemaking. After watching an episode of Joan Rivers’ How’d You Get So Rich?, he was inspired to get any advice to turn his life around. Nelson famously headed for affluent areas of London and started knocking on doors.

Nelson is an associate for a private equity firm and is on the board of a social mobility charity. He was co-host of the BBC Radio 5 Live #YourWorkYourMoney podcast for a year and mentors students from socially disadvantaged areas across the UK.
