Nick Acheson Interviewed by Lucy Lapwing

Naturalist and conservationist Nick Acheson explains how he found a sense of peace and purpose in the pursuit of wild geese during the pandemic and tells the stories he uncovered.

Acheson describes how he followed the geese on his old red bicycle on their arrival in his home county of Norfolk. This includes the arrival of pinkfeet and brent geese in their thousands but also the sightings of rarer Russian white-fronts, barnacle geese and an extremely unusual grey-bellied brant. Acheson says climate change means the migration of geese is no longer certain.

Acheson has been fascinated by nature since growing up in North Norfolk. He has worked for Norfolk Wildlife Trust and written for Red Sixty Seven, Low-Carbon Birding, British Birds, British Wildlife and BBC Wildlife.
