Couldn’t Put it Down: How Writers Keep Readers Reading
Jem Poster and Sarah Burton
Monday, 31 March 2025
12:00pm
1 hour
Trinity College: Garden Room Levine Building
£8 - £15
Novelists and creative writing teachers Professor Jem Poster and Sarah Burton talk about some of the pleasures and pitfalls of the writing craft in a session aimed at aspiring writers.
Poster and Burton will spend 30 minutes highlighting some of the issues writers face in keeping their readers reading, before spending 30 minutes answering questions from the audience.
Poster and Burton are novelists who have spent much of their careers explaining how writing works. They have also written a handbook for fiction-writers, The Book You Need to Read to Write the Book You Want to Write, and a companion volume is due out later in 2025. Poster and Burton also run the festival’s one-day creative writing workshops.
