Renowned defender of dark skies Dani Robertson says we should all embrace the beauty and significance of darkness in a world increasingly dominated by artificial light.
Robertson explains how 99 per cent of western Europeans are living under light-polluted skies and this is having a profound impact on our health, wellbeing and connection to nature. She highlights the wonders of the night skies, the richness of nocturnal wildlife and cultural stories associated with darkness. And she explains why we are all addicted to light, why darkness is so important to us and what we can do to protect the night sky.
‘Dani Robertson is a fine writer – lyrical and eloquent in extolling the beauty of our world – especially the dark starry sky’ Lord Martin Rees
Robertson is a dark sky officer for Snowdonia National Park. Her work for dark skies was recognised by the International Dark Sky Association with the Dark Sky Defender Award.
