Radical Thinking: How to see the Bigger Picture – with Magic
Peter Lamont

1 hour
Oxford Martin School: Lecture Theatre
£8 - £15
Psychology historian and former professional magician Professor Peter Lamont explains how our thoughts are shaped by what we notice and how we interpret things and uses a bit of magic to illustrate his points.
Lamont says we notice only a fraction of what’s going on and we can interpret the same thing in many different ways. He argues that if we think in a radical way we can see the bigger picture beyond a limited view of the world. Lamont says we create a world view from a local point of view. If you are curious, you can see the bigger picture and make sense of anything.
Lamont is a professor of history and theory of psychology at the University of Edinburgh. He has written books on magic, belief, wonder and critical thinking and has been a consultant and contributor to television and radio programmes.
