Classicist and historian Dr Daisy Dunn tells the story of 3,000 years of history through the women who helped to make it.

Dunn looks at the stories of dozens of women sidelined by men writing histories of the ancient world filled with warlords, emperors and kings. She discusses Enheduanna, the earliest named author, the love poet Sappho, Telesilla, who defended her city from attack, Artemesia, a female commander in the Graeco-Persian Wars, and Fulvia, who fought a war on her husband Mark Antony’s behalf. Dunn also looks at the truth behind the female Homer and at the real female-centric worlds that inspired the Iliad and Odyssey.

Dunn is a critic and cultural commentator and author of several books including Not Far From Brideshead: Oxford Between the Wars, In The Shadow of Vesuvius: A Life of Pliny, Catullus’ Bedspread: The Life of Rome’s Most Erotic Poet and The Poems of Catullus: A New Translation.
