Award-winning Chinese novelist Xuemo talks about his life and work at this year’s festival China Lecture.
Xuemo hails from Gansu, China, and has written more than 70 books with translations available in more than 20 languages. His novel Into the Desert won the Excellent Translation Award by the China International Communications Group and the Independent Press Award for Literary Fiction. His novel Curses of the Kingdom of Xixia won the NYC Big Book Award for World Literature. The novel Wild Fox Ridge won the International Impact Book Award and the NYC Big Book Award. He topped the International Media Spotlight List at the Frankfurt BookFair in 2022.
Here he talks to Professor Angus Phillips, director of the Oxford International Centre for Publishing and Journalism at Oxford Brookes University, and co-author of Inside Book Publishing.
Presented by the Confucius Institute of Oxford Brookes University. Previous Confucius Institute events at the festival have included include Man Asian Literary Prize Winner Su Tong, the novelist and filmmaker Xiaolu Guo, and the bestselling author of Yellowface, Rebecca Kuang.
