Two of Spain’s most exciting contemporary authors, Rosa Ribas and Esther García Llovet, talk about the darker side of life under the burning Spanish sun.
Ribas was born in Prat del Llobregat, outside Barcelona, and has a large following for her detective fiction, often set in the city. In Far, she tells the unsettling story of community tensions and a mysterious death on a luxury housing development that was never finished because of the financial crisis.
‘Far is a dark, satirical and very Spanish story with echoes of Claudia Piñeiro and J G Ballard.’ The Guardian
García Llovet is from Madrid and has published widely with Anagrama. Spanish Beauty rummages through the seedy underbelly of Benidorm in the wake of Michela, an idiosyncratic police officer with an unorthodox relationship with the law. Both authors are published for the first time in the UK by Foundry Editions, and the authors will be in conversation with their editor, Richard Village, who also translates Garcia Llovet’s books.
‘A bracing fever-dream pulsing to the rhythms of the rotting heart of the Costa Blanca, Spanish Beauty reads like Raymond Chandler purging himself in the depths of a gin hangover’ The Irish Times
