Well-known sculptor Alexander ‘Sandy’ Stoddart talks about his creative life and explains his beliefs on aesthetics and the relationship between art and Christianity.

Stoddart is the King’s Sculptor in Ordinary for Scotland. He is known for his sculptures in the neo-classical tradition, including bronze statues of David Hume and Adam Smith on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, and for his criticisms of modern art and artists such as Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin. However, he has also said he considers himself a modernist. Stoddart was brought up in a traditional Christian family in Scotland. 

Here he talks to Revd Canon Dr Gregory Platten, canon chancellor of Lichfield Cathedral and former chaplain of Lincoln College, Oxford.
