Gerri Kimber Michael Caines

World expert on Katherine Mansfield Professor Gerri Kimber challenges previous conceptions about the author’s life and uncovers friendships and relationships barely acknowledged until now.

Mansfield was a significant exponent of modernism on the fringes of Bloomsbury and friends with D H Lawrence, Aldous Huxley and T S Eliot. She died in 1923 at the age of 34 having created new ways of writing that Virginia Woolf said ‘was the only writing I was ever jealous of’. Kimber offers some innovative readings of some of Mansfield’s most celebrated stories.

Kimber is a visiting professor in the Department of English at the University of Northampton and was president of the Katherine Mansfield Society for ten years. Here she talks to Michael Caines, an editor at the Times Literary Supplement and co-editor of the Brixton Review of Books.
