Sports writers Tim Wigmore and Huw Turbervill discuss their love of test cricket and its history and ask whether it will survive the inexorable rise of the short form of the game.

Wigmore is a sports writer for the Daily Telegraph. His books include Crickonomics, and Cricket 2.0: Inside the T20 Revolution. His latest, Test Cricket: A History, has been longlisted for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year. In it, he tells the story of the games and the players that have shaped test cricket since it was first played in 1877, ranging from Bodyline to Bazball, to the golden age of the West Indies and the eras of Shane Warne and Ian Botham.

Turbervill is a writer on The Cricketer, a former Daily Telegraph sports writer and author of The Toughest Tour, the story of England’s tour to Australia since the war. In his latest book, The Final Test: The Uncertain Future of Cricket’s First-Class Game, he asks what the future holds for test cricket. Turbervill sought the views of some of the greatest test cricketers of all, including David Gower, Graham Gooch, Merv Hughes and Reece Topley, in his quest for an answer.
