Beyond Dispute: Rediscovering the Jewish Art of Constructive Disagreement

Experienced peace negotiator and diplomat Daniel Taub argues that ancient Jewish wisdom offers a way to help resolve seemingly irreconcilable differences around the world.
Taub draws on his own experiences as a peace negotiator in difficult situations, contemporary research into conflict resolution and ancient wisdom to call for a new approach that sees argument not as a combat zone but as a joint enterprise. He says the approach creates a safe space where controversial opinions are welcomed and practical tools are provided to rethink preconceptions. Taub says this approach is a way to build societies and communities that are resilient enough to face new and challenging ideas without fear.
Taub held diplomatic positions in the Israeli foreign ministry, was a negotiator in Israeli-Palestinian peace processes and was a member of the Israeli team in Israel-Syria negotiations. He was Israel’s Ambassador to the UK between 2011 and 2015.
Part of the festival’s programme of Jewish and Hebrew literature and culture.
