Veteran foreign correspondent Tim Marshall reflects on the changing global geopolitical landscape including wars in Ukraine and Gaza in a talk to mark the ten-year update for his global bestselling book.

Marshall says that you will never fully understand world history if you don’t understand your geography. Prisoners of Geography sold more than 850,000 copies in the UK when it was first published and has sold 3 million worldwide. Marshall has updated it to reflect recent changes, including China’s ambitions, war in Ukraine and Gaza, the US pivot to the Pacific, the rise of the right in Europe and the economic and military growth of India.

Marshall has more than 30 years’ experience writing and broadcasting on foreign affairs as a diplomatic editor of Sky News and for the BBC. He has covered conflicts in Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Israel. His other books include Power of Geography, The Future of Geography and Worth Dying For.
